NS Mayport was originally established in 1942 as a major naval base to build World War II ships. Today, it is the third largest depot of aircraft carriers.
Today, its harbor can accommodate 34 ships, and its runway can support any aircraft currently supported by the Department of Defense.
NS Mayport can be a great assignment. The area has a lot of retired military, as well as a variety of jobs. There are also a variety of high-tech companies and health care related work in the area.
While the local economy has made it difficult to find jobs in retail and hospitality, there are good jobs for skilled professionals.
NS Mayport is home to the Navy’s United States Fourth Fleet. This unit was reactivated in 2008 after being deactivated in 1950. The base is currently home to numerous aircraft carriers and will soon house an undetermined number of nuclear powered aircraft carriers and submarines.
Most sailors on the base choose to live in Jacksonville, FL. This city is the largest city in the United States in terms of actual land. The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the NFL’s newest teams, and the city has grown significantly since their introduction.
Today, there are several malls and luxury stores, hundreds of restaurants, and several different museums. Additionally, there are several state parks within driving distance that offer access to the Atlantic ocean, lakes, and hiking trails.
There are multiple private schools in the area as well as a good number of public and private schools. Schools in Duval county vary a lot in quality, however, making it critical for families to research the neighborhood schools before moving. Florida uses an A to F grading system to grade their schools, and the over 200 schools have grades from A to F. There are also three four-year colleges in the city. Mayport has a large hospital complex, but there are also several private hospitals in the area that accept Tricare.
The Jacksonville housing market was deeply affected by the recent housing boom and bust that affected the state of Florida. As a result, the market around Mayport has been in decline for the last several years. Because of the high number of foreclosures and short sales, demand for rental housing has sharply increased. While there is sufficient inventory to make up for this, rental prices have increased slightly in the area in the past several years. It is, however, a good time to purchase a home in the city.
