Located just southwest of Colorado Springs, Fort Carson is also known as the Mountain Post and touts the motto “Best Hometown in the Army.”
The fort is one of the fastest growing installations and plans are in process to add even more acreage to expand it and the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site. Nearly 70,000 soldiers, family members and civilians call Fort Carson, Colorado home.
The 1st, 2nd, 3nd and 4th Brigade Combat Teams of the 4th Infantry Division.
The installation prepares soldiers to win on the battlefield with a mission to train, deploy and sustain the brigade units.The Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site is located 150 miles east of Fort Carson and is used for predeployment training. The area provides a realistic training environment in a convenient location. An expansion of 653 square miles is planned for the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site.
The climate in Colorado Springs makes the area perfect for outdoor activities. Families can enjoy hiking, mountain biking or whitewater rafting. There are many museums in the area, including the Ghost Town Museum, National Museum of WWII Aviation and Museum of Colorado Prisons. The city has a thriving nightlife, with several breweries and a sports bar with 11 televisions.
There are three elementary schools and one middle school at Fort Carson. Children in high school attend one of the high schools in the local community. Service members who live off-post use the local school districts.
Evans Army Community Hospital is located on-post and provides inpatient and outpatient care to service members and their families. An outpatient clinic offers primary care as well as dental, pharmacy, dermatology and behavioral health services. A 24-hour emergency room is available for after-hours maternity admissions and other emergencies.
Family housing on-post is owned and managed by Balfour Beatty Communities, Inc. Balfour Beatty operates 19 neighborhoods at Fort Carson. A wide variety of social and educational activities are available for families who live on-post. The Housing Services Offices has a wealth of information regarding the local real estate and rental market.
Service members who wish to live off-post can work with the HSO to find quality housing in the local community. Temporary housing is available at Fort Carson’s Colorado Inn. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance.
