Camp Pendleton has been training and preparing our Marines and Sailors since WWII and has continued that tradition well through modern times with the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
Today the base is a recognized landmark consisting of over 125,000 acres of real estate in the middle of a thriving ocean side community.
Operations at the base are responsible for employing over 3000 civilians and more than 45,000 stationed Marines and retired families call this home.
As a training facility, the base prepares Marines and Sailors for combat readiness. While the troops are participating in daily training maneuvers, Camp Pendleton ensures the necessary service and support functions are operational for its assigned families and personnel. Its vision and purpose continue to thrive as military personnel engage in the latest methods and techniques for first-class performance in the field.
There are two unit categories stationed at the base; Major and Tenant Commands. You’ll find the Marine Expeditionary Force, 1st Marine Division, Logistics, Battalions, Air Craft and Corps Air Station under the Major Commands. Tenant Commands include Tactical, Amphibious and Assault craft.
Camp Pendleton’s location offer families and military personnel a wide variety activities to select from – whether you chose to stay close to home or decide to venture further in either direction. Nightlife is abundant in nearby cities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Del Mar, Fallbrook and Temecula. These cities are ready to share adventures from movies, games or outside entertainment.
Spend the day taking the train to the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, and Escondido’s Wild Animal Park or head in the other direction to Disneyland or Knott’s Berry Farm in Orange County. Take a trip through the wineries of Temecula, or spend a day at the race track of Del Mar. In the evening, take in some of the nightlife from favorite music cafés, to the local cuisines.
The main hospital of course is located on base at Camp Pendleton. The facility looks over Lake O’Neill and is staffed with qualified and certified physicians and specialty medical caretakers. Other specialty medical facilities are located in the nearby towns of Oceanside and Vista.
There are several elementary schools located on base, which are associated with the Oceanside United School District. San Onofre and Fallbrook Union Elementary School districts are part of the school districts that accommodate the different housing developments.There are also accredited colleges operating on base offering higher educational degrees through graduate levels.
Like most military installations, on base housing accommodations are available for military personnel registering with the Base Housing Office. The housing office typically works with outside realtors who maintain current listing for the surrounding communities from single family homes to apartments.
Camp Pendleton offers an optional bachelor housing or single family houses residences when available for specific ranks. Enlisted Bachelor Quarters are mandatory for single E-5 and below service personnel. From time to time temporary housing needs are available on base with private baths, laundry facilities and kitchenettes. Reservations need to be made ahead of time – 6 months in advance. There are also guest quarters on base for enlisted and officer personnel.
