There are many companies that show their support of the military by providing military customers with discounts. Most require that the soldier be active duty and have a valid military I.D., many extend these discounts to active duty military spouses as well.
Below is a list of recognizable companies that provide military discounts. If you don’t see a company on the list, ask them. You may be surprised to find out that they do offer discounts. Also, many companies on this list extend the same discounts to Veterans.
AT&T, Cingular, Verizon and Sprint all offer military discounts. Some will only discount single plans, others family plans. All waive international incoming calls during the soldier’s deployment, a copy of orders are required. They will also allow the soldier to turn off their cell phone during the duration of deployment with no fees.
Remember that when you travel, quite often the hotels on bases are the best deal. At Disney World, Shades of Green is a resort that is strictly for military only and is reasonably priced. Hyatt, Marriott and Wyndham hotels all offer steep military discounts, during holidays it may be limited. Another tip, smaller chain hotels that offer AAA discounts quite often offer military discounts as well. Also, check with the local USO. They know of the best hotel deals in the area.
USAA offers the military the lowest price in auto and home insurance, membership is required and most branches are located on post. GIECO, Progressive and All State offer military discounts as well. Be sure to check your coverage during PCS moves, especially those overseas.
Disney World offers military tickets, which can cover guests as well. Disney also offers extended hours for military and discounts at Disney restaurants. Ripley’s offers reduced or free admission to their museums. Anheuser Busch and Six Flags offers discounted military tickets and military appreciation days where admission is free.
Most airlines will offer free baggage check for active duty members, some will extend this offer to military families. Contential offers discounts on airfare and American Airlines offers 50% off shipping of pets. Amtrak offers discounts on regular fares. Hertz car rental offers discounts and unlimited miles. National car rental offers discounts and no fees for additional drivers. Carnival, Disney, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines all offer military discounts.
Many states offer reduced prices for hunting and fishing licenses as well as state park entry fees. Keep in mind that many military bases require separate hunting and fishing permits. All National Parks are free for military, including amenities such as camping. Apply for your annual free pass at www.nps.gov.
There are hundreds of stores and restaurants that offer military discounts. Old Navy offers 10% on Mondays, Banana Republic offers 10% on the first Monday of the month, Express 10%, Hickory Farms offers 10% discount and free shipping to APO addresses, Barnes & Noble gives 6% discount and free shipping, Buckle 10% discount, Lowe’s 10% discount, Home Depot 10% discount and GAP 10% discount on the first of the month.
Major restaurant chains such as Applebee’s and Chick-Fil-A offer discounts as well, they vary by location. Always ask when you check out of they offer military discounts, you might save unexpected money.
